In 2007, I began working part-time for AYUSA (which stands for Academic Year in the U.S.A.), a high school foreign exchange organization. I help to find host families for students that come from all over the world. They live with the families for a semester or whole school year. Last school year I placed 7 students from Finland, Slovakia, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Yemen, and Brazil. This school year, I have 8 students from Holland, Serbia, Germany, Thailand, and Brazil. After the students arrive each year, I have monthly get-togethers to help them get to know each other and to make sure they are adjusting well to school and their host families.
